Slideshow

A photo slideshow is a great way to display multiple images without taking up a huge amount of space on your page or struggling with aligning a lot of images.  At AlbanyWeb, we can offer a flexible slideshow that can either show several images within a single page or article, display the contents of a dedicated photo album, or create an interactive banner which includes images, selectable text and hyperlinks.  Our slideshow solutions do not use Flash, so that your content will always be visible, regardless of which device your visitor is using.  As with everything else AlbanyWeb offers, our slideshows are mobile-friendly, and will resize gracefully to fit any screen.

We can add a slideshow to your existing AlbanyWeb website too, just ask.

Working effectively with images is a balancing act, if you want to empower your editor to add and change images but still keep a visual impact with your website.  We have been playing with images and colour effects to enhance some of our newer websites.

Many modern themes feature very large images, often overlaid with text, or letting the text of a page float up over a large and striking image.  The visual effect of this is undeniable.  However, at AlbanyWeb we want to balance this visual effect with giving our clients flexibility, keeping our websites fast to load, and keeping them accessible.

Laying text over an image so that it is readable is a little tricky, and graphic artists employ shadows and focused de-saturation to make the text stand out.  The easiest way to do this is to cheat a little, by making the text part of the image. ...

When her web designer retired, the artist Gaby Hahn approached AlbanyWeb to take over her existing website and give it a refreshed design, including additional copywriting to improve the copy, and extra support to manage content updates more readily.

We used our existing experience at designing a gallery space for artists, and applied this to Gaby's website, converting static image displays to slideshows controlled by thumbnail portraits.  We reduced the overall number of images on display, but added her entire...

The Rugby Family History group is a voluntary genealogy organisation, whose members specialise in the family histories of the Rugby area.  Their existing website needed a fundamental software upgrade, and they felt it was no longer a job for a volunteer.  AlbanyWeb did a website conversion from Joomla and created extra functions to help them more easily operate as a society.

Within the limited budget, AlbanyWeb focused on customised page templates to help organise and display the results of research...

Too often we see websites that look great and well organised on the surface.  Somehow all the important information is not where you expect to find it.  We call it the 'empty calendar' syndrome.  This is where we see a lovely calendar or diary widgit or box or area, which has no events or activities.  Instead, they are in one big text list in a blog post or news article.

Because it is often easier to add a blog post, the blog area becomes the dumping ground for all the updateable information, and the rest of the website remains with the pristine (and often generic) wording it had on the launch date.  Which is now increasingly out of date.  What is wrong with this scenario?  It makes the visitor work very hard to find the important information from your website, and most visitors won't work very hard, and won't visit...

AlbanyWeb websites for artists packages offer intensely visual, uncluttered online portfolios so you can reach a bigger audience with your art - all designed to be easy for you to...

Our newest AlbanyWebs website is a simple but powerful portfolio site for Scottish artist Sue Simpson.  Beginning with our standard website, we added an enhanced, accessible and fully-responsive slideshow that put her paintings and line of greetings cards front and centre.  In addition, Sue's website is the first of our projects that was designed to be best viewed on a tablet device, with elements of navigation floating around or below the centrally framed slideshows.

Sue's original website was built using Flash slideshows, which meant that it was not visible on many phones and tablets, and also meant that her ability to edit or add images and information was very limited.  As a result, the site grew a series of extra pages with additional information, that fell outwith the original design, and outwith the original (also Flash-based) navigation, and this made that information very hard to find.

We created a clean...

Sue Simpson is an Edinburgh-based artist who wanted an easier website for promoting her art, and to help sell her series of greetings cards.  Her previous website used a Flash slideshow to show her paintings, and was inflexible for adding further information (as well as invisible on many tablets and phones).  However, she liked the very simple appearance and the gallery-like space of her original design.

AlbanyWeb created a new website that framed each image in bright and soothing colours...

In addition to keeping all our AlbanyWeb websites well-maintained and speedy, Adam Shepherd offers private Thai massage and yoga classes. Adam's logo was created by our graphic-designer based on a photograph of him in a yoga pose.  Adam's previously had a Google Sites website but decided to completely overhaul his website instead of simply transferring it.  His new AlbanyWeb website includes a newsletter sign up, photo slideshows, and a special contextual menu that categorises his articles by subject matter.
