Edit a page

Make changes to any page on your AlbanyWeb website by following these simple steps:

  1. Make sure you are logged in.
  2. Navigate to the page that you wish to edit.  Immediately below the page title, and above the main text, you will see some extra buttons.
  3. Click the 'Edit' button.
  4. The first field you see is called 'Title'.  You can change it if you wish (unless you are changing your home page).
  5. The next field is called 'Body'.  This is the main content of your web page.  Place your cursor anywhere in this text and start making your changes.
  6. When you are happy with your changes, click outside the 'Body' field box, and scroll down the bottom of your page.
  7. Click the 'Save' button.

Leaving the editing form without Saving

If you do not want to save your changes, or have done something you can't fix very easily, go to the top of the Edit form and click on the 'View' tab.

Learning how to use the Body field

The 'Body' field is like a little Word processor contained in a box, and it works more or less like most common word processors, such as Word.  For the most part, anything you would want to do in Word, you can do here too, such as making text bold, adding hyperlinks, creating numbered lists and so on.

At the top of this box is a menu of icons which may look familiar to you.  Use these to format your text in the way that you want.  Some common editing features are detailed in the next few sections.

If you hover your mouse over any of these icons, you will see a little message saying what it is.  Have a play with some of the features to get to know them better.

If you have a long page, you will have to scroll up and down to view all your text.  As you do this, you will notice that the toolbar stays in the same place.

What you see as you make changes to your page is what you will see when you Save and look at the page again.  There are sometimes small differences in the way that text scrolls or breaks - but remember that your YogaWebs site is designed to rearrange itself for different screen sizes, so this is normal.

When you are editing a body field, you may be able to get automatic spell checking and corrections - read more here.

Problems with Editing a Page

I can't seem to scroll down to the bottom in order to save my changes.

If you look to the right hand side of your screen, you will see two scroll bars.  One is for the 'Body' field (which contains your main text), and the other is for the entire Editing form.

You will also see that your 'Body' field is contained inside a neat little box, bordered with grey.  This is the key to controlling which scroll bar you use.

  • To scroll around within your text and make changes, make sure your cursor is inside this box.
  • To scroll to the bottom of the page to Save your changes, make sure your cursor is placed anywhere outside this box.

I want to add some coloured text.  How do I do that?

You can't, and shouldn't want to.  Most of the appearance of your YogaWebs site has already been set up for you when we created it, with the colours that you chose.  If you are adding lots of different colours to your text now, eventually your website will start to look messy.  If you have a particular effect that you want, contact us to discuss what you want to do, and we can either offer a suggestion or add an extra feature to your website.

I want to change the font but I can't find a button to do that.

You can't, and shouldn't want to.  When we designed your Yogawebs site, we chose the sitewide fonts together.  Adding additional fonts afterwards can make your site look messy and unprofessional.  If you think you have need of more flexibility with your fonts, contact us to discuss some options.

Why shouldn't I change the name of my homepage?

Drupal, the software which we use for AlbanyWeb websites, treats the home page as special.  If you change the name of your homepage, Drupal suddenly doesn't know where to find it anymore.  If you want to change the title of your homepage, contact Tina or Adam, and we will do the change for you.
